Honduras rewards travellers who make the journey with Caribbean islands, cloud forests and one of the great Maya cities. Most UK visitors head for the Bay Islands — Roatán and Utila — for affordable, world-class diving, while Copán draws history lovers and the mainland national parks suit hikers and birdwatchers. There are no direct flights from the UK to Honduras, so every routing involves at least one connection, usually through the United States. The price charts on this page show how the options compare across the year.
The dry season runs roughly from December to April and is the most reliable window for the Caribbean coast and Bay Islands, with settled weather and the best underwater visibility. The Atlantic hurricane season spans June to November, with the heaviest rain and storm risk in September and October. Inland areas around Copán and Tegucigalpa stay cooler and can be visited year-round. Christmas and Easter bring good weather but the highest demand, so check the When to book chart above before fixing your dates.
Four airports matter to UK travellers. Ramón Villeda Morales International (SAP) in San Pedro Sula is the busiest gateway and the usual arrival point for Copán and the north coast. Palmerola International (XPL), near Comayagua, now handles most flights for the capital, Tegucigalpa, having taken over from the short, mountain-ringed Tonvcontín. Juan Manuel Gálvez International (RTB) on Roatán serves the Bay Islands, and Golosón (LCE) in La Ceiba links to Utila and the mainland parks.
From the UK you will connect through a US hub — American Airlines via Miami, United via Houston or Newark, or Delta via Atlanta — after a transatlantic leg from London Heathrow with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or a partner carrier. Manchester also offers one-stop routings via the US. Avianca connects through San Salvador or Bogotá, and Iberia links Madrid with San Pedro Sula, which can suit travellers flying from regional airports. Allow roughly 16 to 20 hours in total, depending on your layover.
British passport holders do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days in Honduras, which shares a joint entry arrangement with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua; your passport should be valid for the length of your stay. If you connect through the United States you must hold an approved ESTA and meet US entry rules, even just to change planes. The currency is the Honduran lempira, though US dollars are widely accepted in the Bay Islands. For the best fares, watch the When to book chart above and set your dates early for Christmas and Easter travel.
Your allowance to Honduras depends on the airline and the fare you book. The table below shows typical long-haul allowances so you know roughly what to expect — always confirm the exact limits with your airline before you fly.
| Fare type | Hand baggage | Checked baggage |
|---|---|---|
| Basic / Light economy | 1 small under-seat bag | Usually none — add for a fee |
| Standard economy | 1 cabin bag + 1 personal item | Typically 1 × 23 kg |
| Premium economy | 1–2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 23 kg |
| Business / First | 2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 32 kg |
Indicative only. Allowances vary by airline, route and fare — always check your airline's baggage policy.
