Overview
Nadi, on the west coast of Viti Levu, is the arrival point for almost every UK traveller heading to Fiji. It is a busy, friendly town rather than a resort in itself, but it is the gateway to Denarau Island and the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. The trip from the UK is long and always involves at least one stop, so routing and timing are worth planning. Use the price charts on this page to see how fares to Nadi move through the year.
Best time to fly to Nadi
Fiji's dry season, May to October, brings warm days of around 26–29°C, lower humidity and calmer seas — the most reliable weather and the busiest period for UK visitors, especially in July and August. The wet season, November to April, is hotter and more humid with heavy tropical downpours and a genuine cyclone risk. Fares often ease in the shoulder months of May and October; check the When to book chart above.
Airlines and routes
There are no non-stop flights between the UK and Nadi. The most common one-stop routing is via Los Angeles, where Fiji Airways connects with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or American from Heathrow. Fiji Airways also flies from Hong Kong, pairing with Cathay Pacific. Other practical options run via Singapore, Australia or Auckland with Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Emirates or Air New Zealand. From London allow roughly 22–24 hours of flying plus your layover; from Manchester you will usually connect through London or a Gulf hub, adding an hour or two.
Things to do in Nadi
Most visitors spend a day or two in Nadi before or after island-hopping.
- Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple: a vividly painted Hindu temple at the south end of the main street, among the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
- Garden of the Sleeping Giant: orchid gardens and rainforest walkways in the Sabeto foothills, a short drive from town.
- Sabeto Mud Pool and Hot Springs: a rustic, relaxed spot for a warm mineral mud bath and soak.
- Port Denarau: the marina and shopping area where catamarans leave for the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands.
- Wailoaloa Beach: the closest stretch of sand to town, good for a sunset drink after a long flight.
At Nadi International Airport (NAN)
The airport is about 9 km north of the town centre, a 15–20 minute drive, and a similar distance to the Denarau resorts. Fixed-fare taxis wait outside arrivals, most resorts offer pre-booked transfers, and shuttle coaches serve the main resort areas; local buses run along Queens Road for the budget-conscious. Arrange a transfer in advance if you land late at night.
Top tips for finding cheap flights to Nadi
- Book around three to six months ahead; last-minute fares to Fiji are rarely kind.
- Travel in the shoulder months of May or October, or midweek, to avoid the July–August and Christmas peaks.
- Keep your dates flexible and check the price charts on this page — shifting by a few days can make a real difference.
- Compare routings as well as airlines: a Los Angeles connection and a Hong Kong connection can be priced very differently.
Travel essentials
UK passport holders do not need a visa for tourism: a free visitor permit for stays of up to four months is granted on arrival, provided your passport is valid for at least six months and you hold an onward or return ticket. The currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD). No vaccinations are required for entry from the UK, but check the latest NHS Fit for Travel and TravelHealthPro advice before you travel; dengue is present, so pack insect repellent.
