Overview
Fiji is an archipelago of more than 300 islands in the South Pacific, about as far from the UK as travel gets. For British holidaymakers it means soft-sand beaches, warm lagoons, world-class diving and genuinely warm hosts. There are no non-stop flights from the UK, so every trip involves at least one connection - but the journey is worth it. Best time to fly to Fiji
Fiji has a dry season from May to October, when the weather is cooler, less humid and reliably sunny - this is the most popular time to visit and the busiest for flights. The wet season from November to April brings higher humidity, tropical downpours and a risk of cyclones, though resorts stay open and fares often ease. UK school holidays in July, August and around Christmas push demand up, so the shoulder weeks of May, June, September and October usually give the best balance of weather and value. Main gateway cities & airports
Nadi International Airport (NAN), on the western side of the main island of Viti Levu, is the arrival point for almost all international visitors and the springboard for boats and light aircraft to the outer islands. Nausori Airport (SUV), near the capital Suva, handles mainly regional and domestic flights. Most first-time visitors fly into Nadi and stay nearby on Denarau Island or along the Coral Coast.
Airlines and routes
Fiji Airways, the national carrier, is the main airline linking Fiji with the wider world and connects to London through partner hubs. Common routings from the UK go via Los Angeles, Hong Kong or Singapore, or via an Australian city such as Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne with Qantas and Fiji Airways. You can also travel via Auckland with Air New Zealand, or via the Middle East with Emirates or Qatar Airways to Australia and then onward. Expect a total journey of roughly 24 to 30 hours from London depending on the connection; from Manchester you would normally route through London or a Gulf hub, adding a little time.

- Taveuni: the lush Garden Island, famous for waterfalls, rainforest walks and the diving of the Rainbow Reef.

Travel essentials
UK passport holders do not need a visa for a holiday in Fiji - you are granted a visitor permit of up to four months on arrival, provided you have an onward or return ticket and a passport valid for at least six months. The currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD); cards are widely accepted at resorts, with cash useful for villages and markets. Fiji is around 11 to 12 hours ahead of the UK.
