Overview
Romblon is a small island province in the middle of the Philippines, spread across the Sibuyan Sea between Mindoro and Panay. Its three main islands — Romblon, Tablas and Sibuyan — are known for quiet white-sand beaches, clear snorkelling and hand-carved stone, which has earned Romblon the title "Marble Capital of the Philippines". Flights to Romblon from the UK connect in Manila before the short hop to Tugdan Airport (GES) on Tablas. Interest in cheap flights to Romblon builds through the British winter, when the islands are at their driest.
Best time to fly to Romblon
The dry season runs roughly from December to May and is the best window for island-hopping and boat transfers. January to April brings calm seas and steady sunshine, while March to May turns hot and humid. The southwest monsoon arrives around June and lasts into November, with the main typhoon risk from July to October, when inter-island ferries can be disrupted. For a good balance of weather and price, look at early December or late April, and check the When to book chart above.
Airlines and routes
There are no direct flights from the UK to Romblon, or to the Philippines from most UK airports. Nearly everyone flies London to Manila with one stop — Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates and Etihad via the UAE, Singapore Airlines via Singapore, or Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong — with a total journey of around 17–22 hours including the layover. Philippine Airlines has also operated a Heathrow–Manila service. From Manila, Cebu Pacific's Cebgo flies to Tugdan in about 50 minutes; book this leg on the same ticket where you can. Flying to Caticlan or Kalibo and continuing by ferry is another option.
Things to do in Romblon
This is an unhurried, old-fashioned province best explored slowly. A few highlights:
- Bonbon Beach: a long cream sandbar on Romblon Island linked to a tiny islet at low tide.
- Fort San Andres: a 17th-century Spanish watchtower above Romblon town with sweeping harbour views.
- Marble workshops: family-run studios where local stone is cut, turned and polished.
- Mount Guiting-Guiting: a demanding guided rainforest climb on Sibuyan Island.
- Cobrador Island: a quick boat trip for reef snorkelling and near-empty sand.
At Tugdan Airport (GES)
Tugdan Airport sits in the centre of Tablas Island, near Alcantara. Odiongan, the main Tablas town, is about 15 km away — roughly 25–30 minutes by tricycle or shared van, and vans usually meet flights. For Romblon town, take a van to San Agustin port (about an hour), then a passenger ferry to Romblon Island (around 45 minutes). Agree fares first and carry pesos, as cards aren't accepted.
Top tips for finding cheap flights to Romblon
- Book the long-haul leg to Manila about three to six months ahead, and add the Manila–Tugdan flight to the same booking.
- Fly midweek and avoid the Christmas, New Year and Easter peaks as well as UK school holidays.
- Keep your dates flexible and compare several hub carriers — a Gulf or Asian connection is often much cheaper.
- Use the price charts on this page to find the cheaper months before booking.
Travel essentials
UK passport holders can enter the Philippines visa-free for up to 30 days as tourists, provided the passport is valid for at least six months and you hold an onward or return ticket. The currency is the Philippine peso; change money or withdraw cash in Manila, as ATMs on Tablas and Romblon are limited and often cash-only. No vaccinations are required to enter, but check NHS Fit for Travel and TravelHealthPro for current advice on routine jabs and mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue. The Philippines is seven to eight hours ahead of the UK.
