Grenada, the 'Spice Isle' of the southern Caribbean, rewards the long flight from the UK with nutmeg-scented rainforest, calm beaches and a wonderfully laid-back capital. It lies at the bottom of the Windward Islands, close to Trinidad, so it stays warm and green all year. This hub covers every city and airport we fly into, with live fare data on the page to help you time your trip. Check the price charts on this page before you book.
The dry season runs from December to May and brings the most reliable sunshine and lower humidity. This is peak season, so fares and hotels are highest over Christmas, New Year and February half-term. June to November is wetter and overlaps the Atlantic hurricane season, though Grenada sits far enough south that direct strikes are relatively rare. For a good balance of weather and price, look at late April, May and early June. The When to book chart above shows how prices shift through the year.
Nearly everyone arrives at Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) on the Point Salines peninsula at the island's south-western tip, about 15 minutes from Grand Anse beach and 20 from the capital, St George's. It is a compact single-terminal airport with taxis on fixed government rates. The sister island of Carriacou has a small airstrip reached by a short hop from Grenada, not directly from the UK.
British Airways flies direct from London Gatwick to Grenada, and Virgin Atlantic serves the island from London Heathrow; both operate only a few times a week, and some flights make a brief stop at another Caribbean island. Typical direct flight time from London is around 8 to 9 hours. There are no direct flights from Manchester or other UK regional airports, so travellers from Manchester, Birmingham or Scotland usually connect through London, or route via Barbados, Antigua or St Lucia and take a regional carrier such as Caribbean Airlines or interCaribbean for the final leg. Connecting through the US is possible but adds ESTA admin.
UK passport holders do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days; carry a passport valid for the length of your trip and proof of onward travel. The currency is the East Caribbean Dollar, pegged to the US dollar, with US dollars and cards widely accepted, though local cash is handy for markets and buses. Book a few months ahead for peak-season travel, and check the When to book chart above before you commit.
Your allowance to Grenada depends on the airline and the fare you book. The table below shows typical long-haul allowances so you know roughly what to expect — always confirm the exact limits with your airline before you fly.
| Fare type | Hand baggage | Checked baggage |
|---|---|---|
| Basic / Light economy | 1 small under-seat bag | Usually none — add for a fee |
| Standard economy | 1 cabin bag + 1 personal item | Typically 1 × 23 kg |
| Premium economy | 1–2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 23 kg |
| Business / First | 2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 32 kg |
Indicative only. Allowances vary by airline, route and fare — always check your airline's baggage policy.
