Gabon sits on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa, straddling the Equator and almost 90% covered in rainforest. Its national parks shelter forest elephants, lowland gorillas and mandrills, alongside long empty beaches where hippos occasionally wander down to the surf. It is a niche destination, so there are no direct flights to Gabon from the UK – every routing connects through a European or African hub, with most travellers arriving into Libreville. This page brings together live fares so you can compare airlines and travel dates at a glance.
Gabon is hot and humid all year, but the long dry season from June to September is the prime window: cooler, overcast skies, easier wildlife viewing in Loango and Lopé, and humpback whales offshore. A shorter dry spell runs from mid-December into January. The heavy rains fall from February to May and again in October and November, when forest tracks can be hard going. Fares tend to firm up around the dry-season peak and over Christmas – see the When to book chart above for how prices shift through the year.
There are no non-stop services between the UK and Gabon, so you will change planes once. The most dependable options are Air France via Paris, Brussels Airlines via Brussels (a long-standing Central Africa specialist) and Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa and Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca offer further one-stop routings from London and regional UK airports through connecting partners. From London, allow roughly 11 to 14 hours in total depending on the connection; from Manchester, expect a little more once the feeder flight and transfer time are included. Air France and Brussels Airlines generally give the smoothest single-stop timings.
UK passport holders need a visa. Gabon runs an e-visa system: you apply online before travelling and the visa is completed on arrival at Libreville – always confirm the current process on gov.uk before you book. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is compulsory for entry. The currency is the Central African CFA franc (XAF), pegged to the euro; carry cash outside Libreville, where card acceptance is limited. For the best fares, watch the price charts on this page and book a few months ahead, especially for June to September travel.
Your allowance to Gabon depends on the airline and the fare you book. The table below shows typical long-haul allowances so you know roughly what to expect — always confirm the exact limits with your airline before you fly.
| Fare type | Hand baggage | Checked baggage |
|---|---|---|
| Basic / Light economy | 1 small under-seat bag | Usually none — add for a fee |
| Standard economy | 1 cabin bag + 1 personal item | Typically 1 × 23 kg |
| Premium economy | 1–2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 23 kg |
| Business / First | 2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 32 kg |
Indicative only. Allowances vary by airline, route and fare — always check your airline's baggage policy.
