Kosovo is one of Europe's youngest countries, a small, mountainous nation in the western Balkans where Ottoman old towns, Orthodox monasteries and alpine scenery sit close together. It stays refreshingly uncrowded, costs are low and the welcome is warm. For UK travellers it suits a short city break around Pristina and Prizren, or a hiking trip in the Accursed Mountains. This hub covers every Kosovan city we fly to, with live fares in the charts on this page.
Kosovo has a continental climate: hot summers, cold winters and heavy mountain snow. Late spring (May and June) and early autumn (September and October) are the sweet spot, with pleasant weather for sightseeing and softer fares. July and August are hot and coincide with the return of Kosovo's large diaspora, so flights fill early and prices rise; the Christmas and New Year period is busy for the same reason. Winter is the season for skiing at Brezovica. See the When to book chart above for how fares move through the year.
Pristina International Airport (PRN), also called Adem Jashari Airport, is Kosovo's only commercial airport and the entry point for almost all UK visitors. It lies about 15–20 km southwest of central Pristina, a 20–25 minute drive, and Prizren and Peja are each roughly 90 minutes away by road. Some travellers instead fly into Skopje or Tirana and drive across the border, but Pristina is usually the simplest choice from the UK.
Wizz Air operates the main direct service from the UK, flying London Luton to Pristina year-round, with further routes appearing seasonally; a non-stop flight from London takes around three hours. There are no direct flights from Manchester or other UK airports, so you would connect through a European hub — Austrian Airlines via Vienna, Turkish Airlines or Pegasus via Istanbul, Lufthansa via Munich or Frankfurt, or Swiss via Zurich — for a total journey of roughly five to eight hours. Booking both legs on one ticket keeps your baggage and connection protected.
British passport holders do not need a visa to visit Kosovo for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period; your passport should be valid for the length of your trip. The currency is the euro, which Kosovo uses despite not being an EU member, and cash is handy outside the main cities. For the best value, book short breaks six to ten weeks ahead and summer or festive travel considerably earlier, using the When to book chart above as your guide.
Your allowance to Kosovo depends on the airline and the fare you book. The table below shows typical long-haul allowances so you know roughly what to expect — always confirm the exact limits with your airline before you fly.
| Fare type | Hand baggage | Checked baggage |
|---|---|---|
| Basic / Light economy | 1 small under-seat bag | Usually none — add for a fee |
| Standard economy | 1 cabin bag + 1 personal item | Typically 1 × 23 kg |
| Premium economy | 1–2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 23 kg |
| Business / First | 2 cabin bags + personal item | Typically 2 × 32 kg |
Indicative only. Allowances vary by airline, route and fare — always check your airline's baggage policy.
