Airlines and routes
No airline flies direct from the UK to Bolivia. Most itineraries route through Madrid with Air Europa or Boliviana de Aviacion (BoA) to Santa Cruz, then a short domestic hop to Cochabamba. Others connect via Panama City with Copa Airlines, or through Bogota, Lima or Sao Paulo with carriers such as Iberia, LATAM or Avianca on the first leg from London, Manchester or Edinburgh. At Jorge Wilstermann International Airport (CBB)
The airport lies about 5km south-west of the centre, usually a 15 to 20 minute drive. Official airport taxis and radio taxis wait outside arrivals; agree the fare before setting off. UK passport holders do not need a visa for tourism in Bolivia and are normally admitted for up to 90 days per calendar year, with a passport valid for at least six months. The currency is the Bolivian boliviano; pounds exchange easily at bureaux, but Bolivia is very cash-oriented, so carry notes rather than relying on cards.
